Adventure child bike trailers have unlimited potential for active mums and dads. On a long-distance tour or a short ride to school or around the neighbourhood, Adventure child bike trailers are an ideal solution for transporting one or two young children. With Adventure child bike trailers, taking the kids along is never a problem. Smart construction allows Adventure child bike trailers to be folded up for convenient storage and transport. Practical hitch connections located on the rear wheel quick release of adult bicycles allow trailers to be attached and disconnected in minutes.

Two five-point safety harnesses offer total security and protection for young passengers. With a low centre of gravity and an all-weather cover, Adventure child bike trailers are ready for anything. Extra storage pockets allow parents and kids to store important items, such as toys, baby blankets, bottles, diapers and food, for a fun and comfortable trip. Adventure child bike trailers are perfect for toddlers, preschoolers and nursery school students age five to six. Children are urged to wear helmets, but several users found their children did not have adequate headspace. The maximum weight capacity of Adventure child bike trailers is between 36 and 45 kilos. Passenger seats conveniently fold down to provide cargo space for groceries and other goods. Although the passenger seat doesn’t offer reclining capabilities or a lot of padding, passengers enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride thanks to the smart tyre and wheel design.

The alloy-frame AT1, AT2 and updated AT3 model as well as the steel-framed ST3 trailer are designed as lightweight, safe and compact child carriers. Each trailer weighs approximately 12 kilos unloaded and most models are available for £150 to £250. Canvas construction provides a durable shell that allows trailers to fold down completely with the wheels removed. However, fabric-bottom trailers require careful cleaning and ample drying time to prevent mould growth. One-piece trailer covers available include mesh and clear roll-down windows for sunny and rainy rides. With the cover on, kids have access to plenty of window space for full visual stimulation on longer rides. Integrated safety kits include reflectors, safety strips and a flag to improve trailer visibility. Optional stroller conversion kits priced around £45 add an extra wheel turning your trailer into an all-inclusive jogging pram. Adventure child bike trailers offer high-end features and fold-up construction in one convenient and competitively-priced package.

There are quite a few factors to consider when contemplating the purchase of child cycle trailers.

Obviously, the first would be the safety of young passengers. All reputable manufacturers are aware of this and take prudent measures by supplying visibility enhancements such as safety flags, wheel reflectors, and reflective materials on the back and sides. Adjustable safety harnesses are provided to keep kids from sliding around inside the trailer, and from being ejected in the event of a sudden stop or swerve. A low center of gravity is desirable to provide stability, and anti-tipping hitches supply additional security. Beyond this, it is the responsibility of the adult bicyclist to provide for extra safety. Kids should always wear helmets, and adults should go to whatever lengths necessary to minimize risks from and to pedestrians and other vehicles, such as taking routes that minimize exposure to risks of these types.

Passenger comfort is the next thing to consider. Child cycle trailers can be purchased with padded seats and harnesses, as well as bug screens, mud flaps and sun canopies. Better trailer models have suspension systems that minimize the effects of bumps and uneven surfaces. Remember, as the driver, you can see and anticipate these obstacles; young children do not know what to expect. Adjustable suspensions are also beneficial in a two passenger trailer, permitting different age/weight children to ride together.

The intended purpose of the trailer also comes into play. While most child cycle trailers are fairly versatile, some models are designed mainly for recreation and exercise, and some are geared toward transportation. Recreational models may be lighter and more appropriate for a quick spin through the park on a pleasant afternoon. A transportation model will often weigh more, but supply storage space for cargo, diaper bags and the typical baggage children require, such as toys, snacks, and changes of clothes.

Another important consideration is the ability to use child cycle trailers for more than one thing. Here, we’re talking about the ability to buy conversion kits that allow the trailer to be used as a conventional or jogging stroller, or even towed behind a cross country skier. Finally, when the children have outgrown the trailer and are riding bikes on their own, some models can be converted to use as cargo or pet trailers.

A final consideration is a feature that permits child cycle trailers to be folded for storage. This lets you keep the trailer indoors in flats that otherwise would necessitate storage out of doors, where the trailer might be exposed to inclement weather.

Good quality child cycle trailers have average prices around 300 pounds. A decent model can be found for around 150 pounds, and top-of-the-line models can cost upward of 600 GBP. Safety should never be compromised for price. As with most bicycle related products, more money equates to lower weight, so be aware that the cost difference between two perfectly acceptable child cycle trailers may simply be the difference between one that weighs 35 pounds as opposed to one that is under 30 pounds.

Child bike trailers can be a great asset for getting the whole family involved in your bike ride. There are single child bike trailers, trailers that hold two children, and even a child bike trailer that will hold three children. Not only are these trailers great for bringing along children who may be too young to ride their own bicycle, but you can also use it to bring along supplies for a picnic or toys for your child to play with, as well as use it to store groceries if you need to go to the store.

Many models of child bike trailers fold, which makes them easier to store. There are some models that come with quick-release wheels, which really helps in the event the wheels have to be removed for the trailer to be stored properly.

Child bike trailers that hold more than one child can be found in models that offer side by side sitting or models where the children sit behind one another. There are normally four types of hitches available for child bike trailers. A hitch mounted to the axle is probably the most popular, followed by a hitch mounted to the frame. Other models have hitches that are mounted either on the seat post or the bike rack. Most hitches that are made these days provide the safety feature of letting the bike fall over without effecting the trailer. This is something you should check on prior to buying any child bike trailer.

While there are not many models on the market, there are a couple of child bike trailers that can also be used as a stroller. This is mainly because a child bike trailer is usually wider than most traditional strollers, which can be especially troublesome if the need to go through a door arises.

The harness is also something to think about when considering a child bike trailer. Finding a model that will keep your child strapped in in an upright position without falling over should they fall asleep is a nice feature to have. There are also trailers that offer the ability to recline the trailer, but keep in mind some models are easier to recline than others.

Something else to consider when looking for the right child bike trailer is the wheels. Larger wheels tend to be smoother on bumps, and spoked wheels are usually of higher quality than plastic ones.

Finally, having a child bike trailer that offers flow-through ventilation is essential for hot days. You will also want to have a screen in front as protection from bugs and debris. Another feature of child bike trailers you will want to consider is a plastic cover that can offer protection against rain and wind.
